A mash-up of Pop hits and Opera classics

So what, exactly, is this? Well, it’s definitely NOT your grandmother’s opera! “Popera” is a fusion of the musical terms and styles of "pop", or popular music, and opera. A classic example of a Popera singer is Sarah Brightman who started the exposure of Popera to the public. Some other Popera singers are Josh Groban, Katherine Jenkins, Hayley Westenra, Il Divo, Andrea Bocelli.

But wait until you see and hear Men Alive’s version of Popera! Imagine Lady Gaga's " Born this Way" performed in a powerful pop and opera mix, or the tender beauty of Handel's "Ombra Mai Fu" from the opera SERSE performed in a contemporary rhythmic style. You won’t find synthesized music in any opera hall but the one Men Alive performs in on the Barclay stage.

Get ready for magnificent costumes, fabulous dance numbers, incredible songs and the “Popperettas” to guide you through the whole amazing experience.
Please join us.

Frday March 30 and Saturday March 31, 2012
